Acidity

एसिडिटी

Acidity is the condition people live with for years without calling it an illness — they simply keep a tablet handy. The camp treats it as digestion’s first warning, and hearing it early makes everything after it easier.

Why the burning happens

Acid in the stomach is normal — it is what digests food. The trouble starts when acid keeps being produced and food does not arrive on time, or arrives in a quantity the system cannot handle.

Long empty stretches followed by one heavy meal, too much tea and coffee, late dinners, and stress — these five causes come up most often at the camp.

Acid-suppressing medicines stop the burning, but they do not remove the cause that set the cycle going.

What changes at the camp

First, timing. Food arrives on a fixed clock at the camp, and within a few days the body settles into that rhythm. For many people that alone shows a difference.

Second, the nature of the food — fried, heavily spiced and sour items come out; light, lightly spiced sattvic food replaces them.

Third, when dinner happens. A light meal near sunset has time to digest before you lie down — the most direct answer there is to burning at night.

The dietary principles

  • Never go long stretches on an empty stomach
  • Eat slowly and chew — this matters as much as any medicine
  • Cut tea, coffee, and lemon on an empty stomach right down
  • Fried and heavily spiced food out
  • Dinner three hours before sleeping
  • Do not lie down straight after eating

Experience

From people who came with acidity

These are individual experiences. Results vary from person to person.

  • I carried a tablet in my pocket for twenty years. I had no idea how much difference simply eating dinner earlier would make.
